Chapter 520 - 517: Come at Me Together
"Master, I am yours in life and yours in death! You can’t refuse to accept me as your disciple!"
Xiao Zhang clung to Mo Qi’s leg, collapsing onto the ground in a sobbing, snotty mess. Anyone who didn’t know the situation would have thought Mo Qi had done something terrible to him.
The assembled Immortals felt their entire worldview crumbling.
Judging by the grand entrance Xiao Zhang had made, his status in the Demon Sect was clearly not low.
In fact, many had already guessed his identity: the Young Master of the Demon Sect.
And yet this very Young Master of the Demon Sect, second to only one person and superior to all others, was now wailing and begging Mo Qi to take him as a master.
What was so special about Mo Qi? What could possibly make Xiao Zhang cast aside his dignity like this?!
Or was this all just a conspiracy by the Demon Sect? A plot to kidnap Mo Qi and seize the Desperate Mountain Range for themselves?
The powerhouses of the Demon Sect were so shocked they nearly lost control of their Cultivation.
And just who was Xiao Zhang?
The son of the Sect Leader of the Demon Sect! The heir handpicked by the Old Ancestor! The wielder of the Demon Sect Summoning Order!
Any one of those titles alone was a mark of immense prestige.
But what was this prestigious Young Master doing?
Begging someone in the mere Vajra Realm to accept him as a disciple!
It had to be said that Xiao Zhang’s actions not only baffled the members of the Demon Sect, but also made them feel deeply embarrassed.
But the Sect Leader had given them a direct order: no matter what happened, they were to obey Xiao Zhang’s every command. Any who dared to defy him would be executed without mercy.
So they could only pretend they hadn’t seen a thing.
Mo Qi’s expression darkened. He had no intention of taking on a disciple.
Besides, Xiao Zhang’s reason for wanting a master was utterly ridiculous.
Mo Qi never considered himself a good person, but he was hardly a "Demon" either.
Just as he was about to tell Xiao Zhang to get lost, the Pig Emperor’s voice sounded in his mind. ’Mo the kid, I smell a familiar and powerful presence inside this fellow. If he’s truly sincere about becoming your disciple, you might as well accept him.’
Mo Qi knew the Pig Emperor would never joke about something like this. For it to sense a presence that was both familiar and powerful meant that this Xiao Zhang was no simple character.
"Can you pinpoint the source of that familiarity?" Mo Qi asked.
The Pig Emperor shook its head. ’My memories are too many and too chaotic; I can’t place it right now. But I can tell you this: this guy’s future is destined to be anything but ordinary.’
Mo Qi pondered this for a moment. Then, under Xiao Zhang’s intensely hopeful gaze, he took out a Medicinal Pill.
"If you truly wish to be my disciple, then eat this. As long as you..."
Before Mo Qi could even finish his sentence, Xiao Zhang had snatched the Medicinal Pill and swallowed it in a single, unhesitating gulp.
He didn’t even stop to inspect it.
"Master, I ate it! Does that make it official?" Xiao Zhang asked excitedly, licking his lips.
Mo Qi was stunned for a moment before finally nodding with a helpless, wry smile.
The Medicinal Pill was quite ordinary. It contained no deadly poison, nor did it have any sort of binding curse.
Mo Qi had only wanted to test Xiao Zhang’s sincerity. He never expected the guy to swallow the pill without even waiting for him to finish his sentence.
’Just how much trust does it take to do something like that?’
In any case, Mo Qi was left speechless.
He didn’t know what Xiao Zhang’s angle was, but Mo Qi was moved by his actions.
"Hooray!" Xiao Zhang leaped ten feet into the air, as happy as a 220-pound man.
After venting his excitement for a moment, Xiao Zhang turned to the crowd of Immortals, his smile vanishing.
"Master, leave these hypocrites who wish to harm you to me. I guarantee I’ll give them an experience they will never forget."
Now that he was officially a disciple, Xiao Zhang decided to give Mo Qi a special gift to mark the occasion.
However, Mo Qi refused.
"Stand back. This matter has nothing to do with you."
Mo Qi didn’t want to owe anyone a favor. Besides, he already had a plan and couldn’t let Xiao Zhang disrupt it.
Xiao Zhang thought Mo Qi was treating him like an outsider and quickly interjected, "Master, how can you say such a thing? Your business is my business, and your enemies are my enemies! These people aren’t worthy of your attention. Just let me handle it."
Mo Qi knew Xiao Zhang meant well, but he still frowned. "What’s this? Are you going to disobey your master already?"
Xiao Zhang flinched and lowered his head. "I wouldn’t dare, Master. It’s just..."
"No ’justs’!" Mo Qi waved his hand dismissively. "Since you’ve taken me as your master, then today, I will give you your first lesson. Watch closely and learn."
Xiao Zhang was overjoyed. "Thank you, Master."
He didn’t know how Mo Qi planned to deal with so many powerful experts, but he believed in him.
It was a kind of absolute, unconditional trust.
Mo Qi then turned to the Immortals and smiled. "Alright, let’s get back to our previous discussion. Anyone who wants to kill me can make their move now."
The Immortals exchanged glances, their eyes eventually landing warily on the powerhouses of the Demon Sect.
They weren’t concerned about Mo Qi. They were concerned about Xiao Zhang and the Demon Sect’s stance.
"Rest assured, I guarantee they won’t interfere. Even if you kill me, it’s fine. They won’t come looking for revenge later," Mo Qi said, giving Xiao Zhang a look.
Xiao Zhang understood the cue and stepped forward. "It is as my master says. The Demon Sect will not interfere in this matter."
Hearing this, the Immortals all breathed a collective sigh of relief.
In their eyes, while the Demon Sect was evil, they were also known for being exceptionally good at keeping their word.
If Xiao Zhang said they wouldn’t interfere, then they absolutely would not.
And so, the crowd’s gazes toward Mo Qi once again grew fervent with greed.
Although Mo Qi’s Mysterious Confidence made them suspect a trap, what could he possibly do all by himself?
Could he take down an entire region’s Hall of Envoys single-handedly?
"Anyone who wants a piece of me, come at me together! Don’t waste time!" Mo Qi fanned the flames. "If you don’t want to fight, leave now. I wouldn’t want to hurt any innocent bystanders."
So arrogant!
So brazen!
So conceited!
The crowd grew both furious and impatient.
There was only one Mo Qi, and only one bounty for the Master of the Desperate Mountain Range.
Whoever killed Mo Qi would get it.
This was no time to stand around and watch the show. The first to strike would have the advantage!
But, in a strange contradiction, no one wanted to be the first to attack.
The nail that sticks up gets hammered down, and no one knew what fate awaited the first to move.
For a moment, the scene was a complete stalemate. No one attacked, and no one left.
"No one’s leaving? I take it you all want to kill me, then?" Mo Qi’s gaze swept over Dai Zhen and the others.
Those who had previously been bowing their heads, afraid to even look at Mo Qi, were now staring at him with undisguised killing intent.
"I can’t believe you’re colluding with those fiends from the Demon Sect. Even though you once saved my life, for the sake of justice, I must now set aside personal feelings and offer you as a sacrifice to the heavens!"
Dai Zhen, who had been acting like a sworn brother to Mo Qi just moments before, now stood ramrod straight, his face a mask of self-righteousness.
It was as if executing Mo Qi was some great deed, a righteous act on behalf of heaven itself.
"That’s right! Everyone has the right and duty to execute fiends of the Demon Dao!"
"I’m starting to suspect he approached us and did us favors on purpose, just to make us lower our guard! He must have some ulterior motive!"
"There’s nothing more to say! Kill him!"
