Chapter 528 - 257: Assault! Breaking the Formation! (Part 3)

"What’s happening down there?"

"Who are those people in gray robes?"

"Be alert! Stay on guard!"

Panic-stricken shouts echoed, but their long-standing negligence left them slow to react and chaotic in movement. No one immediately ordered an attack, nor did anyone swiftly activate the City Defense Array to full capacity.

A few officer-like figures rushed to the wall’s edge, leaning out and questioning below with a tone of suspicion and arrogance:

"Who goes there?!"

"State your identity and purpose!"

"Cease advancing immediately, or face certain death!"

Meanwhile, as the garrison’s attention was drawn to the army clad in gray robes ahead, no one noticed a phantom-like shadow. Utilizing the shadows at the wall’s corner and the garrison’s chaotic blind spots, it silently scaled the smooth, towering walls of several dozen meters at an almost vertical angle!

It was Black-robed Modus!

At this moment, his body was enveloped in a dark Power, making him blend seamlessly into the shadows, slipping past the parapet without drawing any attention.

’This is too easy.’

Modus thought to himself.

His target was clear: the auxiliary control room inside the wall, which managed and output the core Energy of Iron Shield City’s Defense Array. It was usually heavily guarded and worked in conjunction with the main control room.

Once infiltrated successfully, Iron Shield City’s City Defense Array would lose its Energy supply.

He advanced rapidly, like a fleeting, dark specter, and drifted into the auxiliary control room. His black Demon Sword already drawn, he swiftly cut down every soldier before they could pick up their weapons.

"...."

Modus sheathed his sword in silence, his gaze falling on bloodstained playing cards and the soldiers sprawling near the table, feeling somewhat speechless.

He had expected fierce resistance, thinking a slight delay might result in numerous casualties among his troops. But given the current situation, even if he had strolled in leisurely and dispatched them with absolute power, it likely wouldn’t have made a difference.

Their reactions rendered his lightning-quick sprint and blade-wielding maneuvers redundant and somewhat foolish, a realization that left him just a bit annoyed.

Worthless bunch!

....

Elsewhere, Wu Geng quietly raised his hand, pointing to a part of the wall that seemed no different from others yet had a subtly obscure Energy flow.

It was a secondary Energy node of the Defense Array. Breaking it would disable the City Defense Array, a facet of his meticulous second-tier preparation.

"Boom!"

He uttered a word softly, and scarlet Fire of Chaos shot from his fingertip, the fiercely intense flame speeding out and accurately striking the node.

"Crack! Boom!!"

The ear-piercing sound of shattering and the buzzing of run-away Energy rang out simultaneously; the runes on the wall dimmed instantly, as if they had lost their potency.

The gemstones forming the node’s base also showed web-like cracks; plainly, this City Defense Array could no longer be activated.

The guards on the wall gaped in disbelief at this unimaginable scene.

Their City Defense Array wasn’t even engaged, yet it was already destroyed!

Wu Geng glanced at the utterly chaotic guards on the wall, not displaying any glee of victory, but rather a hint of impatience.

He felt as though all his previous strategies and preparations, even the contingency plans for unexpected scenarios, had become utterly futile efforts.

Having experienced numerous skirmishes in the Purgatory Level of the Feng Shen Ji World, he now felt a headache and an unspeakable exasperation, unable to resist questioning:

Those guys over there?

Are they really still Humans?

Can Humans even pull off such a performance?
