My Hero Academia: Blink

Chapter 69: Adolescence - 23

Isshun looked at the Queen Bee wriggling in a plastic bottle he teleported from a nearby trash can.

"That’s pretty disgusting."

The Queen Bee looked like any other queen bee you’d find in the wild, except its abdomen was unnaturally swollen and pulsating like flesh.

Isshun reached out to place the Queen Bee he extracted from Pop☆Step next to Pop☆Step’s head, taking another photo for comparison and as proof.

’No way they don’t believe me after all this.’

In another plastic bottle, a small amount of liquid sloshed around inside.

This was the drug Isshun had seen among the mutants in Hopper’s Cafe.

’So does this drug just give you melanin?’

After he extracted all of the drug he could, Pop☆Step’s skin slowly turned paler, tinged with a little pink flush.

Though seeing as she was breathing heavily throughout the surgery, it was probably because she was hot.

The surgery was a success.

At the very least, there would probably be no future issues with this girl’s health unless someone put a parasite in her right eye too.

Isshun couldn’t guarantee her mental state, seeing as even though he could observe neurons firing, he didn’t have a set way to decipher what those electrical signals were conveying.

But she was alive and physically healthy, no?

It was even free of charge!

’Though...’

Isshun sloshed around the liquid in the plastic bottle.

’This is an interesting drug by itself... and it looks like it even enhances the effects of Quirks.’

Though Teleportation wasn’t even really a Quirk in the first place.

But it did seem like the kind of contraband that underground organizations would pass around or deal with in a Quirk Society.

’Does seem like a fun side project though...’

Isshun tossed the plastic bottle up into the air, and it disappeared out of existence.

Now that Pop☆Step was cured, the next phase would be to prove her innocence.

Unfortunately for Isshun, that would be his least favorite part of his plan by far, and just thinking about it reduced his motivation.

Extending his Domain, he immediately looked for candidates who would be fine to help his patient.

He wasn’t actually going to be showing up as is, but more through a mimicry of light refraction utilized through his teleportation.

Not doing so would be stupidity on the level of those so-called internet experts who were an astronaut, doctor, and yoga instructor at the same time.

’Hmm...’

Isshun was skimming through the available Pro Heroes that were still in Naruhata, which surprisingly was actually all of them, with the addition of a few more.

Isshun assumed that his sudden appearance had caused the sudden increase in Pro Heroes in the area.

There was little reason for there to be even more Pro Heroes after Pop☆Step suddenly disappeared.

Other than himself.

But to be honest, that only gave Isshun a wider variety to choose from.

’Am I really that popular? Even Endeavor hasn’t left.’

First off, no more than one person.

Second, they had to have some street cred.

And third, they had to be mentally stable.

"Hmm... Then I guess I’ll choose you then."

As he finished that sentence, a small layer near his skin rippled before immediately turning into the color behind him.

If someone were to look at Isshun now, they would see nothing but a disembodied voice.

"̶͇͇̲̒̽A̶̻̙͙͛ͅļ̵͇͍̥̋̂̏͐m̷̺̥͂͒́ö̷͇͔́͂š̷͎̝ͅt̵̼̏̋͒̚ ̶̘̉̉f̸̱͎̂͑õ̷͈̥̦̲r̵̬͉̱̐̎͂g̴̙͍͊̌o̸̫̦͑ṯ̵͈͎͔͗.̴̠̟͓͗͂̍"̸̻̺̖̹͋̅͝

(Almost Forgot)

Right after, even that voice became distorted, as if it was created by combining all the sounds in the world.

It wasn’t really that exaggerated, more or less splitting the wave into different sections and then rearranging the waves.

He had a bit of fun developing that.

It took quite a bit with both to have a set formula, so he didn’t have to try so hard to improvise, like when rebuilding the buildings.

Even though both of them were quite intensive, seeing as they were continuously sustained when he activated the formula, at least he had the opportunity to use it now, rather than just bragging about it.

Isshun inwardly noted to optimize those formulas more later.

He popped another calorie bar into his mouth, before disappearing from the spot.

When Midnight arrived at Naruhata, dressed in a trench coat and a hat, she had planned to help Pop.

Her Quirk was perfect for subduing with little to no conflict, and it was the duty of both a Pro Hero and a friend to help her.

Though...

She had to say, suddenly being drafted through the Hero Network for a Vigilante search was not in her plans.

As a Pro Hero and a user of the Hero Network, she also knew of Blink and their modus operandi: the target of Blink’s Quirk being sent unconscious to the nearest Police Force building.

It worried her a bit, since this scenario was an exception.

Additionally, she wasn’t afraid to admit that she felt this search operation was pointless.

As one of the Pro Heroes on the Sky Egg during the terrorist incident, she had experienced firsthand how overbearing Blink’s Quirk was.

And quite frankly, Midnight had zero faith.

But since she was already searching the abandoned part of Naruhata for Pop, she accepted it.

However, her search had come up empty.

She wasn’t surprised about that either.

No leads. Nothing.

’I’ve already circled this area multiple times, and other than the occasional thug who ran away at the sight of me, this place is empty...’

"I guess I’m heading back..."

She sighed.

But just as she turned to leave with a hint of disappointment, a distorted voice came from behind her.

"̶͍̐W̶͕̑a̷̛̙i̷̙̽t̴̤͠.̷̰̄"̸̪̄

(Wait.)

Her entire body froze, not from a Quirk, but from the sheer... inhuman quality of the voice.

It was like someone trying to mimic human speech.

The voice itself was uncanny.

But as expected of a Pro Hero who had been in the industry for a while, she quickly snapped out of it, turning around.

She had her hands underneath her trench coat, ready to rip off parts of her body suit in case she had to engage.

But when she turned around, she faced an empty street, as if all she had heard was an illusion.

However, Midnight didn’t lower her guard.

She slowly reached for her communication device in her inner pocket instead, intending to call for backup.

"̴̞̿Ỉ̴̲ ̵̦̾w̸̪̒o̷͉͑u̴̫̾l̷̛̤d̵̪͒n̸̺͝’̸͕̈́t̶̯̒ ̴̘͘r̶͓̊ē̵͙c̷̳̑ö̶̺́m̶̠̅m̸̜͝e̸̻̅n̶̯͘d̸̜͛ ̸̫́t̸̢͗h̶͚̾ä̷̧ẗ̵̻́.̸͂ͅ"̶̯͠

(I wouldn’t recommend that.)

The voice came again, still in front of her. Yet no matter how much she looked around, there wasn’t a hint of a person there.

’Invisibility?’

Was her first thought.

But her next conclusion was that she was dealing with someone way above her pay grade.

Her trench coat, while preventing her from being noticed easily while also allowing her to wear her costume, was large enough that her silhouette shouldn’t be easily noticed.

Yet that voice noticed her movements instantly.

Whether it was because of a Quirk or experience, neither sounded like good news.

"...Then I’ll assume you already know who you’re speaking to," she said, keeping her hands where they were, voice even. "So say your piece."

She didn’t move otherwise, studying the empty air where the voice had come from. No reason to needlessly provoke someone who she had no information about.

But as if they didn’t even care about her wary thoughts, the uncanny voice continued.

"̷H̶o̶w̷ ̷a̸b̵o̴u̸t̵ ̸a̸n̸ ̴e̸x̸c̷h̷a̴n̵g̸e̷,̶ ̷P̸r̸o̸ ̶H̵e̵r̸o̵ ̵M̸i̸d̷n̵i̴g̴h̷t̴?̸"̷

(How about an exchange, Pro Hero Midnight)

A/N: First time using the glichy text generator, kinda nervous. Though, sorry for the lack of chaps wednesday and friday. Still got me self to write the saturday bonus Chapter though.

The most of the luggage finally arrived in my new home, and its only been a cycle of unpacking and organizing the moment I wake up. I only got time today to get a Chapter out. And we STILL aint done with unpacking holy why do i have so much stuff.

I got the pc set up finally, so i can use my very nice mechanical keyboard to type which feels really nice.

Also, i do admit, that calories nerf does seem sudden, and it really was kinda sudden. I really should have thought it through when doing that entire sky egg portion cause it would have been a perfect place to introduce it.

I’ll just use the retconning bs and say that since all he was doing was keeping everyone in a location he designated, it wasn’t enough to drain it that bad...? And lets say he ate quite a bit before heading out... yeah, this aint going to convince anybody.

But i just wanted to add something so that isshun is just a little bit(but not by much), human. Don’t look too much into it other than as a humanizing device. Might be some mentions, but most of the times Isshun actually does something that drains his calories more than normal, he’s just showing off. He doesn’t actually need to do allat.

Sorry for the long author’s note.
