Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 719 - 40: [Destiny]: We’re All Good People_2

The Wild Beast at the forefront was both sprinting wildly and yelling with an over-the-top "enthusiasm" and "concern":

"[Mask] Don’t panic, we’re here to help you, Night Watcher don’t you dare be arrogant, I... uh?!"

Before his greeting could land, the latter half got stuck in his throat, turning into a strange gasp.

The tall Night Watcher, who stood like a tower in front of [Mask], was still taut with muscles, emanating a steely combat aura the moment before.

In the next moment, as if his soul had been extracted, his body suddenly stiffened without warning, then toppled backward rigidly.

"Boom!"

The heavy body crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Dead?

What’s happening??

Faking an injury?

Red Dragonfly and Wild Beast’s minds buzzed into a blank.

They clearly saw that from start to finish, [Mask] didn’t even touch that Night Watcher, with at least half a meter between them.

How did that Night Watcher just... fall down?!

And so simply and neatly, so... serenely?

Wild Beast and Red Dragonfly felt a chill in their hearts, their previously warm smiles froze slightly.

No, didn’t we agree on hiding our strength? How did you just instantly take down a Night Watcher? Pulling a stunt like that, how are we supposed to act along with your play afterward?

The muscles on Wild Beast’s face twitched uncontrollably, the arm holding the briefcase stiffened, with only one thought left in his mind:

"Damn it, this ’bride price’... seems a bit hard to pull off now!"

At the villa entrance, Wu Shou, who had just poked half of his head out, shivered all over, a chill shooting from his soles straight up to his skull, his scalp instantaneously burst open.

His mouth uncontrollably opened, letting out a series of suppressible, extremely terrified quivering tones:

"Oh my...my gosh... gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh oh---!!!"

That was the Night Watcher that even monsters would flee from.

Though not as potent as [Destiny], but it just got taken down by [Mask] like that?

Are you kidding?

They promised that Night Watchers are squads specialized in killing monsters, how did they get instantly taken down by a monster?

Amidst the shock and terror, Wu Shou’s image of the Night Watchers shattered into pieces.

He seemed to understand now why this [Destiny] squad valued [Mask] so much and was plotting to recruit him into their ranks.

From this perspective, [Destiny] indeed seemed stronger.

While one is specialized in killing monsters only to be counter-killed by them, the other is recruiting monsters under their command.

No wonder, over the years, Night Watchers gained fame, yet their numbers dwindled with every fight, while [Destiny], even under the Council’s full siege, only grew larger.

In the dim glow of the streetlamp, Feng Mu slowly turned his head.

His gaze calmly swept over Red Dragonfly, Wild Beast who had rushed out sideways, and the Master of Ceremonies and Wu Shou lagging behind.

The enthusiastic shout of Wild Beast "Don’t panic, we’re here to help you" still echoed in his ears...

But these faces, he was sure he had never met them before, completely unrecognizable.

How odd, were these spontaneous benevolent citizens?

As a villain, he might be more wary of other people’s inexplicable goodwill than their inexplicable malice.

He slightly furrowed his brows, his cold voice penetrated through the mask, clearly reaching their ears:

"Who are you?"

The voice was exceptionally cold, lacking the anticipated kindness, with only a cold, icy question.

Wild Beast and Red Dragonfly simultaneously halted, meeting [Mask]’s gaze head-on.

Not in a kaleidoscopic pattern, but the normal tri-colored jade, yet still enough to make one feel the evil, bizarre, and cold wariness within.

Red Dragonfly and Wild Beast simultaneously felt a jolt in their hearts, though their faces did not show fear, merely expressing a little bit of annoyance glancing at the seemingly unconscious Night Watcher on the ground.

Their originally carefully designed script was to first close the distance through joint resistance, then build favor through generous gifts, eventually seamlessly extending an invitation to [Destiny].

But now...

The Night Watcher was incompetent!!!

Wild Beast internally muttered harshly, his gaze suddenly lifted, seeing another Night Watcher figure not far ahead.

His pupils immediately widened, showing unadulterated ecstasy on his face.

Almost forgot, there’s one left here!

Praise Destiny!!

Not far away, Feng Yuhuai, ready to give chase, was also brought to an abrupt halt, a dreadful chill rushed from beneath her soles straight to her mind.

With just a glance, she recognized the group of Red Dragonfly.

Although she still didn’t know who these people were, the terrifying feeling of being manipulated by the Puppet and fleeing in panic last time was a memory impossible for her to forget in her lifetime.

At this moment, she still had control over her body, indicating the Puppet Mother’s "gaze" wasn’t currently focused on her.

"Damn it!!!" Feng Yuhuai’s mind was clamoring with alarm bells.

Last time, the Puppet Mother forcibly controlled her to escape, making her both angry and scared, and this time, with the Puppet Mother’s attention elsewhere, not controlling her to flee, she felt even more angry and scared!

"Oh no, that person is looking over!!"

Almost simultaneously with Wild Beast’s ecstatic gaze, Feng Yuhuai twisted her tiptoe fiercely into the ground, her form shooting out like an arrow from a bowstring.

Without a fraction of hesitation, she unleashed her fastest speed, running without looking back.

"This doesn’t count as encountering danger, so I shouldn’t need a boyfriend, after all, those people don’t seem to bear malice toward [Mask], and my teammate has fallen, this is just a wise strategic retreat.

[Mask] should be able to understand me, shouldn’t blame me right?"

Feng Yuhuai internally frantically justified to herself as she swiftly fled.

Wild Beast and Red Dragonfly’s expressions grew even stiffer, the other Night Watcher’s response was so quick it left them caught off guard—it was too decisive in fleeing.

Though logically speaking, anyone seeing their companion get instantly taken down by a monster, and then more helpers emerge next to the monster, would generally flee with a normal brain.

But the problem is, you are a Night Watcher – aren’t Night Watchers reputed for fighting to the death without retreat?

The Master of Ceremonies, peering through the bloodstained black cloth, barely pried open his eyes smeared with blood.

Of course, it wasn’t White Eyes, just ordinary, bloodshot dark pupils.

Come on, [Mask] was right in front of him, how much of a death wish would he need to have to roll his eyes?

Though he could open White Eyes and not look at [Mask], he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

Like in the depths of winter, you know the ice on the iron railing can’t be licked, but when someone repeatedly emphasizes in your ear "don’t lick it," that rebellious impulse instead grows crazily inside, until you unwittingly stick out your tongue...

To the Master of Ceremonies, [Mask] was like that ice, yet also like that voice coaxing in the ear.

He strived to restrain himself, avoiding [Mask]’s line of sight, his gaze following the Night Watcher’s hastily retreating back, a rare hint of confusion showing:

"How curious... Night Watchers have apparently learned to flee now?"

The Master of Ceremonies shook his head, took a deep breath, and lightly patted Wild Beast’s rigid back, stepping slowly from behind her.

He kept his head lowered the entire time, deliberately avoiding looking at [Mask]’s face, focusing only on their shoes, his voice warm and full of goodwill:

"Allow me to introduce, I am the Master of Ceremonies, these two are my companions, Wild Beast and Red Dragonfly."

He slightly turned to indicate the two, and continued to explain:

"We bear you no ill will, quite the contrary, my companions saw you besieged by Night Watchers and simply wanted to lend a helping hand.

Please don’t misunderstand; we are all good-natured people bringing you goodwill."

The Master of Ceremonies silently added in his mind, "though you appear not to need any help."

Yet, those words circled on his tongue, but smartly swallowed back, knowing some truths lose their beauty when spoken aloud.

He gave [Mask] no chance to question, swiftly steering the conversation to the next stage, smiling:

"Truly, if you don’t believe, just see, Wild Beast prepared a special meeting gift for you today..."
