How I Accidentally Built a Kingdom

Chapter 75 - How Much Can I Get

"Ye...yes" The receptionist stammered through her reply.

All around the arena an almost deafening silence had fallen, except for Erick who seemed to be trying, and failing completely, to keep his laughter in.

If you imagine the snorts of a horse... That’s what the man sounded like at that moment.

Which would really subvert the expectations of any person who didn’t know the man.

The first impression of any person seeing him for the first time would be that he’s this stoic and serious soldierman... but that would last only until you get to know him a bit better.

I walked over to the receptionist again, leaving the unconscious Brody where he was.

"So... what now?" I asked, looking down at the wide eyes of the receptionist.

"Well now I just need to give you your guild card, and explain guild rules to you," she answered with a bright smile, already turning on her heels and marching back to the reception area.

I had to give it to her, she had been able to compose herself pretty fast.

A lot faster than everyone else in the arena who still only stared at the massive man laying on the ground with dumbfounded expressions.

"You couldn’t have just let him land one hit?" Erick asked when he came to stand next to me. "You’ve completely ruined the man’s reputation."

"Did you see the size of that man?" I asked, looking at Erick with skepticism. "One hit landed would probably have killed me."

"I doubt that," Erick laughed, as we started walking in the same direction as the quickly disappearing receptionist.

Moments later we stood in front of the massive wooden desk again, in front of the still smiling receptionist, as she slid my guild card across the desk.

It actually looked almost exactly like an ID card from back on Earth, which might have proved to me that the guild was really created by someone like me.

After that she explained all of the ranks and rules to me, which I’m not going to bore you with right now, but here’s the gist of it:

The adventurers are divided into five ranks which surprisingly had nothing to do with any letters— at least the guy, or maybe lady, who created the guild decided they wanted to be different about it.— because here it was divided from Rank Five, to Rank One.

Rank One being the highest rank a normal adventurer could achieve.

There was also one more rank, but that was reserved for the ’Hero’— which I had no idea how they determined that, apparently something like he had to save an entire kingdom, or something like that— that rank was known as the Zeroith Rank.

Any newly registered adventurers had to start at Rank Five, which is where I had to start now.

Rank Five Adventurers had to complete at least one mission every two months, which was going to be a serious drag for me, but oh well.

As for the rules... it didn’t seem that there were any big ones, just something like an adventurer found to take credit for the work of another would have his licence revoked, etc, etc.

"And that’s about all of it," she said, after finishing her long tirade about all of the rules and rankings and all of that bureaucratic bull... ahem I mean important information that I had, of course, listened extremely intently to.

"Thank you," I said. "Where can I sell some beast corpses?"

"You can take all of the items you want to sell to that window over there," she said, pointing at a window I hadn’t even noticed off to the side.

"Thank you," I nodded at her, Erick and I walked over to the window.

As soon as I got there, I noticed a massive size problem.

There was no way that I could take out any of the beast corpses there.

"Adventurers usually already harvest anything of value from the beast corpses, and just bring those items here," Erick said, noticing the frown on my face. "No one has the ability you have to just take the entire corpse."

"Riiight," I nodded, just another thing that was probably going to bite me in the ass. "So should we go and do the same first?"

"Nah," Erick said. "Most of the guild representatives are sworn to secrecy, so it should be fine to show one of them your storage spell."

"Anyway, it’s just a common misconception that only other-worlders have access to null-magic."

"How can I help you," A man said, just as I was about to respond to Erick.

I turned to face the man that stood on the other side of the window, and the first thing I thought was, ’why in the hell are all the men working in this place so massive?’

I mean the man was at least a head taller than me, he literally had to bend over just so his head would fit under the window.

He was however wearing a pretty fancy suit, and looked a whole lot more sophisticated than Brody did.

"Hi," I said, nodding at the man. "I would like to sell some beast corpses."

"Sure," the man nodded. "You can just hand me the items here, and I’ll evaluate them."

"Uhhmm."

How the hell do you tell a person that you needed somewhere a bit bigger to pull out a bunch of corpses almost as big as horses from a storage spell that was so scarce it would cause chaos in the busy reception area?

"We would need a bigger area," Erick said. "We brought complete corpses, not just items."

Apparently you did it just like that.

I could only nod along to Erick at that point.

"You... brought complete corpses?" The man asked, looking at us with raised brows. "How did you do that? With a cart?"

"No," Erick answered, pointing toward me. "We used his storage spell."

I almost coughed out my lungs at the blatant and simple way Erick said that. I mean I had finally learned to be a bit more secretive, and now apparently Erick had decided that that was not always necessary.

"You..."

"He..."

The man looked like he was short circuiting for a few moments, but quickly seemed to switch back to his professional behaviour, with a slight twitch to his left eye though.

"Follow me," The man said, exiting the door next to the window and leading the way to the back of the reception area again, moving through a door not that far away from the door that led to the arena.

Once we stepped through it we were in, what looked like, a massive storage area.

"You can pull out the corpses here," the man said when we finally came to a stop.

Without saying anything more I just reached into my storage and thought of all of the corpses that were still in there.

Twelve portals opened around us, and out of each one fell a beast, there were the seven Grey Wolves, the Earth Boar, the Forest Tiger, and then the three beasts Erick and I had run into on our way this time.

After each beast fell from its portal the man’s brows raised more and more, his eyes widening more and more.

"This..." Once again, it looked like he was short circuiting.

"How much can I get for these?" I asked.
