Venerable Demon Chef

Chapter 536 - 533: Dilemma

Mo Qi thought for a moment, then took out a jade wine pot. He filled it with Purple Sky Wine and handed it to Elder Ku Mu.

Elder Ku Mu’s eyes instantly lit up.

SLURP

He sucked hard, slurping all the drool that was about to hit the ground back into his mouth. He didn’t even notice the small clump of dirt he had inhaled along with it.

Just as Elder Ku Mu was about to take the wine pot, Mo Qi snatched it back.

"What’s the meaning of this, boy?" Elder Ku Mu demanded angrily.

He wanted nothing more than to slap Mo Qi to death and snatch all the Purple Sky Wine.

But when he thought of the relationship between Mo Qi and that "crazy girl," he could only restrain himself.

Mo Qi chuckled slyly.

After all this time, he had figured it out. Although Elder Ku Mu had put a bounty on his life, he had no real intention of harming him.

Otherwise, with Elder Ku Mu’s power, a single sneeze could kill him hundreds of times over. There would be no need for all this trouble.

Besides, Mo Qi and the Pig Emperor had long since reached a consensus: Elder Ku Mu definitely had some connection to his mother. At the very least, he knew her.

"Senior, please don’t be angry. I have a few things I’d like you to clarify for me."

Elder Ku Mu raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to bargain with me?"

Mo Qi shook his head. "I wouldn’t dare. Whether you answer or not, Senior, I will offer this fine wine to you with both hands."

"Then I won’t answer," Elder Ku Mu said bluntly, holding out his hand, clearly demanding the Purple Sky Wine.

Mo Qi: "..."

’I was just being polite, and you actually have the gall to refuse?’

Seeing Mo Qi’s face darken, Elder Ku Mu said impatiently, "I know what you want to ask. I won’t answer those questions because there are many things you aren’t yet qualified to know."

Mo Qi grew anxious. "Then when will I be qualified to know?"

"When you are qualified, you will naturally be qualified to know."

Mo Qi: "..."

’Damn it, if I could beat you, I’d make you regret you were ever born in a heartbeat!’

"Then at least tell me why you put a bounty on my life!" Mo Qi tossed the wine pot to Elder Ku Mu.

Elder Ku Mu threw off the lid and tilted his head back, pouring the wine directly into his mouth.

The moment the wine touched his lips, Elder Ku Mu’s eyes lit up.

GULP, GULP!

The entire pot of wine was gone in three seconds.

"Good wine!"

Elder Ku Mu let out a drunken burp and laughed heartily.

Although he had long suspected that the wine Mo Qi brewed was no simple matter, he had never expected it to satisfy his craving for strong liquor.

It was far from enough to get him drunk, but at least, unlike other wines, he could actually feel it.

"More!" Elder Ku Mu demanded without a hint of courtesy.

Mo Qi didn’t speak or make any move. He just stared at Elder Ku Mu.

He could accept the explanation that he wasn’t qualified to know about his mother, but he wasn’t generous enough to provide an endless supply of fine wine to the man who had put a bounty on his head.

"You rotten brat!" Elder Ku Mu shot Mo Qi a glare. "I was just testing you, that’s all. You dug up so many of my treasures, did I say anything?"

Mo Qi was speechless. ’He kind of has a point.’

So, he had no choice but to toss Elder Ku Mu a Storage Ring. It contained nearly ten cubic meters of wine, enough for the old man to squander for a long time.

Elder Ku Mu put away the ring and nodded in satisfaction.

He turned to face the Northern United Army outside the Array.

"From this moment on, the bounty is canceled. As for the grudge between you and Mo Qi, I don’t care to interfere, and I won’t. However, let me make one thing clear: the rules in the Desperate Mountain Range remain the same. No one is to use power above the Void Realm."

"Furthermore, none of those messy standardized weapons are to be used. Revenge, slaughter, treasure-hunting, combat—all of it must be done with your own abilities. Violators will be obliterated!"

After speaking, Elder Ku Mu didn’t leave. Instead, he walked into the tavern.

Before entering, he tossed a final sentence to Mo Qi: "When you’re done dealing with this, bring me some snacks to go with the wine."

Mo Qi: "..."

’Is this old geezer planning to stay here and freeload off me?’

Outside the Array, the Northern United Army was dumbfounded.

They weren’t allowed to use power above the Void Realm, and they couldn’t use their Array-breaking Killing Devices. How were they supposed to fight?

A frontal assault was definitely out of the question. In the face of this Array, their numbers seemed insignificant and pathetic.

"Are you telling me that in our entire, vast North District, with its hundred Sub-Palaces, we can’t find a single person who can break his Array?" He Jincheng roared in frustration.

Just then, the "living fossil" elder spoke up. "I have studied Arrays since childhood. While I wouldn’t claim to be unbeatable in the Mortal District, I’m at least in the top three in our North District. But this Array Mo Qi has set up... I truly cannot comprehend it. I can’t even find a single clue, let alone figure out how to break it."

"But that kid only has a Vajra Realm Cultivation! Judging by his bone age, he’s not even twenty. Even if he started studying Arrays in his mother’s womb, he shouldn’t be this strong!" Gu Weitian said, perplexed.

The living fossil elder looked at Gu Weitian as if he were an idiot. "You still don’t understand what I’m saying. This Array before us has already surpassed the limits of the Mortal District. Do you really think a little brat at the Vajra Realm could have set this up?"

"If he didn’t set it up, then who did?" someone asked.

Suddenly, a terrifying possibility occurred to everyone.

"Could it be... the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range?!"

The living fossil elder sighed. "Besides him, who else in this Mortal District could lay an Array that would leave our entire North District helpless?"

"In that case, was the bounty from the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range a joke from the very beginning?" Feng Gong said angrily.

They hadn’t heard the conversation between Elder Ku Mu and Mo Qi, so they didn’t know about the "test."

Everyone fell silent at once.

Things had just gotten completely out of hand.

If the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range was on Mo Qi’s side, then they might as well all go home, wash up, and go to bed.

And if that were the case, a lot of things would suddenly make sense.

For example, why the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range, who was boundlessly powerful, didn’t act himself but instead issued what seemed to be an extremely simple bounty mission.

And why Mo Qi, who was just a bratty kid at the Vajra Realm, had such astonishing methods and dared to make an enemy of the entire North District.

No one would believe for a second that he didn’t have someone powerful backing him.

But if you insisted that the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range and Mo Qi were working together, their earlier meeting didn’t look like it at all.

The Immortals had all clearly seen that Mo Qi was extremely wary of the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range at the beginning, even somewhat resistant.

And the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range seemed to want to attack Mo Qi several times.

It was all very confusing.

"What do we do?"

The Northern United Army was now caught between a rock and a hard place.

They didn’t have the ability to continue breaking the Array, and they were worried about some secret, ulterior relationship between Mo Qi and the Master of the Doomed Mountain Range.

But retreating would be too humiliating. They would surely become a laughingstock, ridiculed by the Demon Sect and even the other major districts.

And just then, Mo Qi spoke.

"Everyone, I have some good news to announce. My tavern, ’Uncle Niu’s Kitchen God,’ will be opening for business in three days."
