Era of Magic and Martial Arts

Chapter 727 - 644: Major Event

Their capabilities may still need honing, but their loyalty and insight are beyond question. They know what to ask and what not to.

Outside the car window, the harsh sound of sirens suddenly shattered the night’s tranquility.

One, two, three... several blue and white police cars sped past, racing by their car.

Liu Yi watched the long string of taillights racing forward, seemingly heading in the same direction as them.

Liu Yi frowned slightly and said in a deep voice:

"Minister, it seems the Patrol Office people are also heading to Jade Garden. It’s late at night, might be something major happened."

Feng Mu didn’t answer immediately, just chuckled lightly, the smile not reaching his eyes:

"Hmm, something did happen. Prison Director Qian is probably going to wake up."

Liu Yi and Song Ping’an both froze at the same time, then a cold murderous intent appeared in their eyes simultaneously.

This intent wasn’t directed at Feng Mu, but at the Prison Director instead.

Feng Mu glanced at them through the rearview mirror, his lips curled slightly, as if smiling:

"What, you don’t want Prison Director Qian to wake up?"

He asked slowly,

"Or you don’t welcome Prison Director Qian to return to the Second Prison to preside over work?"

Liu Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, hesitating to speak, he pondered his words, his voice low:

"I don’t hope for Prison Director Qian not to wake up, I just feel that maintaining the current situation in our Second Prison is the best."

Song Ping’an was more straightforward than Liu Yi, he coldly responded with an "hmm" and said:

"Minister, I don’t want Prison Director Qian to wake up."

Feng Mu squinted his eyes slightly, sweeping his gaze over their faces and said meaningfully:

"Without Prison Director Qian, another director will come over, so it’s best for Prison Director Qian to return. When he comes back to the Second Prison, doesn’t he still have to rely on us to manage the work for him? Heh—"

Feng Mu paused, seeing that the two still seemed a bit resentful, his voice suddenly turned eerie, brooking no opposition:

"Remember what I said, hide your emotions, don’t show your dissatisfaction in front of anyone. Fully welcome Prison Director Qian’s return, understand?"

Liu Yi and Song Ping’an felt reluctant, but still nodded submissively.

Feng Mu’s gaze turned to the fleeting night scene outside the car window. His tone returned to calm but carried a deeper strength:

"The Second Prison can’t maintain the status quo forever. Instead of passively waiting for change, it’s better to take control of the changes. Only then can the Second Prison have the ’better’ prospects we desire."

Song Ping’an didn’t quite understand, but he knew how to hide his emotions and would strictly follow the minister’s words.

Liu Yi appeared somewhat pensive, finally revealing a slightly sinister smile.

Recently, he had been following Gong Qi, asking about some technical problems. Over time, he gradually adopted a bit of Gong Qi’s manner.

Feng Mu leaned back on his seat, staring calmly out the window. The shadows cast by the streetlights intersected on his face, revealing a face "loyally devoted."

A few minutes later, the car lights illuminated the night, and the outline of Jade Garden gradually came into view.

The Patrol Office’s police cars had completely blocked the entrance, blue and red lights flashing hectically in the thick darkness, making every constable’s face inside and outside the caution tape flicker.

The prison’s official car stopped a few meters away, and Feng Mu opened the door, stepping out. His gaze swept over the caution tape, landing on the blue and white police cars surrounded.

Those were the cars the [Mask] had driven earlier.

Several constables were carefully inspecting the vehicle; one bent down to check under the car, another shone a flashlight inside, and someone else, wearing white gloves, carefully extracted fingerprints and traces.

Beside the car, a constable was holding a phone, frantically dialing again and again with a worried expression.

"This should be Captain Li’s car..."

He whispered to an Executive Government official beside him, his voice tinged with unease,

"But at Jade Garden, the brothers have looked everywhere and haven’t found Captain Li, nor can they reach him by phone. Oh, and Chang Erbing’s phone isn’t reachable either..."

The Executive Government official frowned deeply, the furrow between his brows as if carved by a knife.

He didn’t respond immediately, just gazed coldly into the distance — several constables were lifting the bodies of security guards from the garden bushes, the outlines beneath the white sheets stiff and cold.

"Call again." The middle-aged secretary finally spoke, his voice low and oppressive, "Keep calling, we must find Li Shang."

He paused, his eyes sweeping over the bodies, then added harshly:

"We need to see him alive, and the body if he’s dead."

Having said that, the Executive Government official coldly glanced at the black official car parked not far away, then said softly to the constable beside him:

"Go ask who that is."

A constable stepped swiftly out of the caution tape and headed straight toward Feng Mu.

Liu Yi took two steps forward to intercept him, wearing a false smile, and stated their identity and purpose:

"We’re from the Second Prison, sent by Madam Li to come over, please let us in."

The constable turned promptly, jogging back to the official’s side, and whispered a few words.

The official’s brows twitched imperceptibly, then he glanced coldly toward Feng Mu’s group of three.

He continued to dial a phone number, speaking into the receiver with a voice so low it was unintelligible, but the tense line of his shoulders and slightly forward-leaning posture revealed the gravity at the other end of the conversation.

After hanging up, he forcefully shoved his phone back into his pocket.

He didn’t look at Feng Mu’s group again, nor did he order them away, as if they were just pebbles on the roadside, left entirely in the cold.

Liu Yi and Song Ping’an calmly committed the official’s unfamiliar face to memory.

They could tolerate others’ slight towards themselves, but never anyone’s disrespect to Minister Feng Mu.

Before Feng Mu promoted them, they were like stray dogs, trampled at will, never having tasted respect.

Now, they finally stood tall again. Their craving for respect rebounding like a spring suppressed for too long, although this respect was not sought for themselves but projected entirely onto Feng Mu.

In other words, if others didn’t respect them, they let it slide, but if others didn’t respect Feng Mu, they would mark it down severely.

If there’s no chance for revenge, so be it. But if they get the opportunity... you can imagine the consequences yourself.

Actually, it wasn’t just Liu Yi and Song Ping’an; Guan Chong, Jiang Li, and many other colleagues in the Second Prison’s Internal Inspection Department shared a similar psychology.

That is, fiery loyalty to Feng Mu, and pettiness in holding grudges.

The degree varies, probably the more loyal, the more resentful.

Yes, they don’t hold grudges for themselves; they hold grudges for Feng Mu!!!

On the other hand, Feng Mu himself remained quite calm. He stood quietly by the car, his gaze cast down onto a small patch of ground in front of him, illuminated by the car lights, with a few dry leaves blown by the wind.

The night breeze stirred the hem of his clothes, his eyes concealed behind lenses as deep as a pool.

About seven or eight minutes later, a figure finally walked out from inside the caution tape — it was Hou Wendong.

His steps were brisk, the hair on his forehead slightly disheveled by the night wind, and his usually neat suit showed a few creases. Standing at the edge of the caution tape, he vigorously waved in Feng Mu’s direction.

Clearly, there’s no way their car would be allowed inside.

Feng Mu quickly moved forward, lifting the caution tape to bend and walk in, flashing a smile toward Hou Wendong, then slightly tensing his expression as he said:

"Secretary Hou, what happened here?"

Hou Wendong didn’t answer immediately. He nodded towards the official in charge of the scene, then led Feng Mu toward the villa area, with Liu Yi and Song Ping’an silently following behind Feng Mu.

After a while, having walked a distance, Hou Wendong slowed down and turned to ask:

"Madam Li didn’t tell you?"

The smile on Feng Mu’s face froze for a moment, then he quickly shook his head:

"Madam just told me to hurry over, didn’t say much on the phone."

...

ps: Crying!

Ah, I kneel, truly knelt down.
