Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 326: The Bloody Sword Saint

General Martin Renolds stood atop the fortifications of the forward base that had been erected partway towards the city walls, attacks rained down around him, yet none seemed to land directly on him, they instead seemed to almost flow around him. As if he was standing in a river of danger acting as the rock that the waters must move around.

His cold eyes observed the battlefield, taking note of the various acts that the army was undertaking.

From the advancement of the siege towers and their progress upon the walls, to the organised charge towards the fresh breech in the walls.

His face remained stoic and uncompromising as he watched his men die by the hundreds, the ground before the wall being tainted red with blood and gore.

When his gaze moved up towards the battle taking place on the sky however, the faintest flicker of emotion could be seen as he stared at the two dragons battling for Syan.

’Where did these savages manage to acquire dragons of their own? I know they are not the wild one, that beast is supposed to wield void mana whilst those two use fire and lightning. Curious.’ He thought to himself.

But soon banished the thought from his mind, it would not matter in the end.

Even though those two dragons were quite formidable, one having even taken down Sir Watson on his silver mutt, it was not enough to secure a victory. They were two dragons against an entire flight of dragons and riders.

It did not matter how individually powerful they were, they simply stood no chance against the might of Eldor.

The faintest flicker of a smile curled his lips at the thought. A gesture that, on a man like General Martin, spoke volumes for his dedication to the kingdom that he severed.

Movement to his side fought his attention, he turned his head just enough to see and let out an internal sigh at the person that was approaching.

A man walked up besides the general, his movements languid and devoid of any form of respect. He did not wear armour of any kind, instead he opted for a casual yet well tailored black tunic and golden embellishments with leather traveling pants and fine yet well worn boots.

A scabbard hung on his hips and his arms were exposed, showcasing a multitude of scars that crisscrossed his muscular body.

His face was classically handsome, now marred with a few notable scars, yet a arrogant smirk curled his lips as he gazed out over the slaughter happening before him.

"Well well, ain’t this just a bloodbath eh mr General. Thought you were the type to value your men? Not one to throw them to the wolves and watch them die in this pathetic manner?" The man shrugged as he paused his words, flashing his arrogant smirk once again.

"But I guess that’s to be expected from a... person, like you. Ha! And you call me a savage." The scorn was clear in the man’s tone, it infuriated the General.

Yet despite how much he wished to kill this man, he knew that he would not be able to do so.

Whilst the General was in command of this army, he was not the most powerful individual present, he was supposed to be the most powerful yet somehow this man had tagged along. And no one but General Hovis himself was able to directly tell this man what to do.

He was the second most powerful person in all of Eldor afterall.

The general sighed as he lamented that fact, how was it fair for scum like that to be able to be so strong? The man was rumored to be above level 250 and thus having received the bonus for entering high stage tier 5. A good 30 levels above what the General boasted.

Still, whilst Martin would love nothing more than to ignore this scum he knew that he had to respond, as much as it pained him to do so.

"It is their duty to fight for the Kingdom, if they die in their duty than it is naught but an honour. Something someone like you would know nothing about."

The man didn’t seem to be bothered by the generals words, if anything he only smiled wider. "Ohh haha! You are right, I care not for anything as pathetic as honour. What need do I have for something so fragile. No I will gladly take power over any ephemeral concept like honour."

General Martin ground his teeth at the man’s words yet kept his face carefully neutral. "Oh course you would. Now, i am sssuming that their is something that you wanted? What is it?"

The man simply smiled at the generals terse words, not seeming bothered by anything.

"Well it’s quite simple really. You see it’s actually quite dreadful, a matter of grand import!" The man paused for dramatic effect, further annoying the general.

"You see, the issue is... that I. Am. Bored. So you need to send the tier 5 whelps in. Else I will start finding entertainment myself." His tone grew sickly sweet at the end, whilst his smile grew vicious and predatory, the general felt a shiver run down his spine at those words.

’Damn, this utter psychopath, why the hell did this man decide to join the expansion army!’ Martin ground his teeth, his face finally showing a flicker of his annoyance at the powerful sovereign standing before him.

He wanted desperately to tell him to just leave and go bother someone else, or better yet, to just wander off into the night to never be seen again. Saddly he knew better, antagonising this man whilst he is in a mood like this would do both himself and the army as a whole no good.

Besides, it was approaching the point in the battle upon where the sovereigns on the cities side should start showing their faces. It wouldn’t harm their odds to make the first move on that front.

General Martin let out a sigh as he once more regained control over his emotions. "Very well, will you be joining in the attack?"

"Good, good! And no, at least not yet. I’ll let the whelps fight it out for a little while, I want to get a good look at their so called king. He is supposed to be powerful, might even make a good sparing partner unlike you lot. I’ll act when I want to, till then. Don’t bore me whelp."

Like that the man, one Jalvic Smith, otherwise known as the Bloody Sword Saint, swaggered off. As he walked his hand blurred and a massive stone boulder that was heading in his rough direvtion was suddenly turned into dust.

General Martin shivered when he saw that. Even with his impressive stats and level, he had barely even seen the man move. To the average tier 4, let alone lower tiers, it would have looked like the boulder had simply imploded the moment that the boulder came within range of him.

The general shook his head, lamenting the fact that such a genius with the sword had turned into such a wild card.

He was terrifyingly powerful, supremely skilled yet utterly and completely insane, with a thirst for both chaos and blood unmatched amongst humanity.

Regaining his composure after that unwelcome conversation, the general refocused back on the battlefield. Quickly noting the changes that had taken place during his intention.

The breech in the walls was now filled with soldiers. A row of shields moved into the gap whilst mages and ranged attackers launched spell and arrow overhead. A wall of defenders fought desperately to defend the gap, refusing to allow a single soldier through.

Up on the walls, another of the siege towers was successfully repelled by the defenders. Whilst another had successfully taken a foothold on the wall.

The fighting was fierce and bodies dropped like flies on both sides of the conflict.

His gaze then moved up into the sky far ahead and his eyebrows rose in genuine surprise at the sight that he saw.

Whilst he had previously been surprised by the two stray dragons supposed strength, he had not expected them to have been quite as successful as they currently were.

Of the original 50 dragons on the kingdoms side only 41 were still airborn. Around :0 of the filthy flying beastkin still remained, the two dragons working in tandem to slowly pick off the remaining Riders.

Still they would not be enough. Already they had begun accumulating damage, their flight was beginning to slow and the kingdom Riders were beginning to learn their strengths.

It would not be long before they were bested so the general turned his attention back to the battle as a whole.

With a gesture an aid rushed over to his side. He quickly informed the aid of his message and sent the boy scurrying off to fulfil his orders.

Soon enough the next stage of the battle would begin, it was time for the sovereigns to take the stage at long last.
