Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 327: Second Phase of the War

Up in the air above the city Rhyana raced through the skies as several dragons chased after her. A rain of magical attacks harried her from all angles and it was taking nearly everything she had to keep ahead of them.

She tucked in her left wing, her body rapidly ducking down and entering into a spinning dive as she ducked under a dragon that had charged her from the front.

Yet she refused to stay on the defensive, she was a dragon, not one of these tamed animals that couldn’t even think for themselves. No she still held her pride, she still embraced the wilds.

Her wings snapped open mid way through her dive, her flight patch instantly changing to angle her towards a slightly isolated dragon who’s rider seemed to be repairing some grand spell.

The lightning covering her body suddenly surged in intensity, her speed climbing in concert.

The rider looked up in shock at her rapidly approaching form, he tried to react, to do anything. He was too slow.

Rhyana’s claws pierced his chest, his body instantly ripped from the saddle he was strapped into. With brutal efficiency she tore the man in half, discarding his body as her tail slammed down on the head of the dragon as she passed.

Said dragons body locked up as its brain was momentarily fried with powerful electricity, causing it to tumble down out of the sky.

It would have likely been able to regain its altitude in time, yet the mages on the wall had learnt to keep an eye on the sky in case of falling dragons. They quickly spotted the defenders beast and a volley of powerful spells rushed up into the sky, quickly engulfing the beast and ensuring it never got the chance to fly away.

Unfortunately for Rhyana, opportunities like that were quickly becoming rarer and rarer as the battle progressed. The flying beastkin had dropped significantly in numbers during the battle.

Whilst she and Vithrax had managed to defeat a number of dragons between them and their companions efforts. It was simply too hard a task to deal with so many powerful beasts all at once, especially when each one is paired with a powerful warrior or mage.

It was already impressive enough that between them they had managed to take down, she quickly glanced around the sky, 12 of the original 50 dragons.

If it weren’t for Susan’s healing, Rhyana would already be on deaths door.

As she readied herself to renter the battle in earnest she felt a shiver run down her spine as a surge of power and a profound sense of danger surged up from far below.

He body instinctively turned into a bolt of lightning as she zapped almost 200 meters away in an instant. Yet the sense of danger persisted.

She glanced down and her eyes opened wide in shock.

Down on the ground 6 figures were moving forwards from the mid clearing fortification of the Kingdom.

Each on of these individuals emitted a terrifying might, far surpassing something so simple as a presence, no, this was the pressure of a domain. Something that she could clearly feel even when so far overhead.

She found herself almost entranced by the swift but steady advance of the 6 sovereigns, in fact she was not alone in her revery.

The entire battlefield seemed to quieten down somewhat, the near constant explosions of magic and the clanging of metal on metal dimmed in intensity.

The 6 strolled forward, the ranks of Eldor soldiers parting before them seamlessly.

Then they began to slowly rise up into the air, they walked, as if the air had become solid under their feet. The world around them resonating with each sovereign as their domains enveloped the world around them.

Then 5 more domains rose up to clash against the hostile domains, this time originating from within the city itself.

From atop the wall, 5 figures began to float up slightly from the top of the wall. Their gazes locked onto the 6 approaching sovereigns.

The Eldor tier 5’s continued to advance, steadily climbing higher and higher until them came to be even in elevation to the 5 tier 5’s of Syan.

Each one stood opposite another, Masin taking his place opposite a small yet lean man in heavy armour. The king of Syan himself standing in the center of the formation on Syans side facing off against the head General of Eldor, one Martin Renolds.

The 11 combatants stayed their for a prolonged moment, each sizing their apparent opponent up.

Their were two missing sovereigns on Eldors side, those two being the defensive specialist that had stayed back down with the army to act as a final line of defense against any surprise attacks. The last being none other than the Bloody Sword Saint, he simply couldn’t be bothered to go just yet, instead content to watch the fun before he ventured out himself.

The various domains clashed, the world between the two sides seemed to tremble with the force being asserted by the sovereigns.

In the center, ice seemed to clash with a raging river as the lead general clashed with the King, the generals domain may have been pushed back had he not been supported by an additional sovereign who stood besides him and also directly faced off against the king, who, other than perhaps the Sword Saint was undoubtedly the most powerful individual present.

The King of Syan was a known entity to Eldor, he had fought against them in the past, his impact on the battle leaving a lasting impression and giving him the epitaph of the White Death.

His frozen domain able to turn lesser men into ice statues before grinding their frozen corpses into fine chunks.

Then seemingly with no signal at all the sovereigns took action and directly clashed.

Masin, being a frontline fighter rushed towards his foe, his shield raised as he deflected the spear thrust towards him as he countered with a swift slash of his sword.

Yet his counter was blocked by the haft of the spear as it spun around and threatened to whip into Masin’s head.

The two exchanged a furious barrage of attacks, the air around them bursting with chaotic manifestations of their domains. Stone platforms materialised under Masin’s feet, whilst rain materialised around the spear wielder.

Neither one utilised any skills just yet, instead opting to rely on purely martial skill for their first clash.

The same was not true in the other battles. Enormis magic attacks flew forth, blocked or rendered impotent by the retaliatory attacks from their opposition.

Each impact of spell or sword causing shockwaves to ripple out from their clash. Each pairing of sovereigns spread out, some rose higher into the sky, others moved down to fight on the ground below.

Regardless of where the battles moved to however, the shear might on display was enough to force away all soldiers within a good 200 meters from each clash.

Rhyana witnessed this all happening in a stunned daze.

Sure she had seen tier 5 battles before now, mainly back in Cragkieth when the space monsters attacks the city. Yet she had been fleeing for her life back then and hadn’t had the opportunity to properly witness that battles taking place.

Even at the end when they had directly clashed with the tier 5 monster, it had only been a brief clash where they had all launched their most potent attack before the battle ended.

Still that had been a battle against a Sovereign and a Tyrant, between enlightened and monster.

Whilst that kind of clash was still a terrifying sight to behold, it could not truly compare to a fight between two enlightened sovereigns. Monsters lacked a certain level of cunning and intelligence, a fact that was not lacking in enlightened.

They held true intelligence, able to effectively learn their skills, develop effective strategies and then apply their accumulated Experian e in the most effective manner.

When that was then pitted against an equally skills combatant it lead to a devestating display of power and skill.

After all, for enlightened and beasts it took a certain level of insight or natural talent to progress into tier 5. They needed to deeply understand their own powers, on a level that is simply impossible to compair to what even a profoundly skilled Lord could attain.

As a result of that no sovereign could ever be described as ’average’ each tier 5 was almost required to be talented and powerful as the threshold of tier 5 was a watershed moment in natural advancement.

In theory anyone could attain level 149 and hit the peak of tier 4. Only true talents could pass that gap and hit level 150.

This all meant that the 11 combatants down below were some of the best of the best. Each one a true talent that had been building their power for a long time.

Now they were putting all of their accumulated knowlage to the test as they clashed against a equally skilled combatant dedicated to ending their journey.
