Chapter 89 - This Is Our Husband
It had been a calm morning like almost all of the morning since me and the other refugees from my village had started living in Lofie Village.
Some of them, and me, had been sitting in the diner of the Julan mercenary barracks calmly eating the breakfast Sylph had served us when suddenly the ground had started to tremble and shake.
Immediately my eyes had widened, because my immediate thoughts had been that we were under attack.
I had immediately stormed out of the door, only to see the ground around the village slowly start to rise.
What shocked me the most at that moment hadn’t been that the ground had started to form what looked like an earth wall. What shocked me the most had been that the same spectacle was happening all around the entire village.
The same earth wall seemed to be surrounding the entire village.
"How?" I frowned, "How is this possible?"
The amount of magic power it would take to raise an earth wall to surround an entire village must have been astronomical.
And yet, not only was it happening, but I could even see the walls starting to compact and harden, I could see stairways start to form on the sides, leading up to the top of these walls, where their fronts raised slightly higher to provide cover for those who stood atop them.
Not only had someone created a wall to surround the entire village, but they had even added all of these details to them, all with one single spell.
My gaze darted around trying to find the person or persons who were causing all of this, I thought that maybe there were more than one person working together to create this spectacle. Although I doubted that several people could visualise the same spell perfectly, it was the only thing that made sense to me at that time.
It was at that moment, with my gaze darting around searching for the culprit that I saw the man standing in the sky in the middle of the village.
He wore an expensive looking dark suit, covered by a black coat. His long dark hair floated around like there was nothing keeping them in place.
As I looked up at this man, he slowly started to drift down toward the ground, even at the distance I was from him, I could see his face become paler and paler as he slowly descended.
I started sprinting in the direction of the village square, the spell he had just cast must’ve completely depleted his magic power, and he might’ve needed my help.
As I ran, I could see all of the villagers looking up at the same man, most of them were wearing bright smiles, although all of them seemed shocked by what they had just seen.
Within moments I reached the village square, just as the man’s feet touched the ground, and as he fell to the ground with a relieved smile.
However, just before he landed, Julia appeared out of nowhere catching him, and in the next moment Catharina appeared on his other side, helping Julia support him.
"Julia?" I asked, my eyes widening in shock. "Catharina?"
"Oh, Bronwyn, you’re here," Catharina smiled. "Could you be a dear and go and call Erick for us please?"
"Erick?" I asked. "Isn’t that the captain of the mercenaries that left the village with your husband?"
"Yes he is," Julia nodded, as they dragged the man to the nearest bench and laid him down on it. "He should be in the barracks right now, or maybe stumbling out of bed as we speak."
I had so many questions that I wanted to ask them at that moment, after all if Erick and their husband were in the human territories, how was Erick in the barracks at that moment. But one thing I had learned about these two women after days of training with them was that they were almost never wrong, so I turned on my heels and hurried back in the direction I had just come from.
As I reached the barracks, a large man with a pronounced scar over his right eye stumbled out of the door, still trying to get dressed as he moved.
"What in the hell did that idiot do now?" I heard him mumble as he moved.
"Are you Erick?" I asked.
The man stopped stumbling around for a moment to look down at me.
"Yes, I am," he finally nodded, after what felt like minutes of him calmly studying me.
"Good," I said, turning around and starting to walk back to the square, and continuing over my shoulder. "Julia and Catharina asked me to come and call for you, they are in the village square with some unconscious man."
"Of course the idiot fell unconscious," Erick sighed as he fell into step next to me, however I had to rush my own steps just to keep up with the man’s longer strides.
Erick didn’t speak a word to me for the entire walk back to the square, although I could still hear him mumble to himself for the entire walk, sometimes he would frown deeply, and other times I could even see the faint start of a smile.
I even started to wonder if he might be a crazy man at some point.
Eventually we reached the square again, where we found Julia and Catharina calmly sitting on the bench next to the dark haired man. They had made him sit upright in the middle, with his chin resting on his chest, each of them sitting on one of his sides holding him upright.
"What did your idiot husband do this time?" Erick asked with a smile as he came to stand in front of the man.
"He completely overdid something like always," Julia answered with a smile of her own. "Can you help us get him back to the inn please?"
I was still trying to wrap my head around Erick’s question, this was Julia and Catharina’s husband?
This was Daniel?
But both he and Erick had still been in the human territories just the previous day, his wives had said that they would be gone for weeks.
And I had just seen the man fly, and cast a single elemental spell so large it should’ve been impossible.
"This... is your husband?" I asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, this is our husband," Cat answered with a smile again.
"But..."
I tried to find the words that I was searching for, but for a few moments they kept evading me.
"But... I just saw him fly," I finally found something to say.
"Of course he can fly now," Erick grunted as he lifted the man onto his shoulders and started walking in the direction of the inn.
