How I Accidentally Built a Kingdom

Chapter 91 - You Just Wanted To Show Off In Front Of Your Wives

When I finally opened my eyes again with that same damned extreme hangover feeling again, I found myself completely alone in our room at the inn.

Of course I was suffering the standard consequences of complete magic power depletion, my head felt like it was going to explode, my skin felt like it was on fire, and then there was this feeling of... emptiness.

"Shiiitt," I groaned as I sat up in bed.

Seriously, waking up like that was not a joke.

I looked out of the window, only to find that the sky was already starting to darken again, which might have made me go into a slight panic. That entire trip was only supposed to be a short visit, and then we were supposed to teleport back into the carriage on the way to Virshak after all.

But now there I sat, almost an entire day later, still in Lofie village.

"Oh fuck!," I exclaimed as I stumbled out of bed, every move felt like someone was stabbing a new knife into my skull, but I needed to speak to Erick as soon as possible.

Although for some reason every move I made felt... powerful?

I couldn’t really explain it, even though ’magically’ I felt like absolute shit, physically the difference felt... massive.

Where I felt like a pretty strong guy just before passing out, at that moment I felt like the version of me before passing out was like a child to the new version of me. Which made absolutely no sense to me at the time.

I stormed toward the closed door of our room, and opened it with slightly more force than I intended, which might, or might not, have caused me to rip it completely off its hinges.

"What the hell?" I muttered, holding the now... wall-less door, yeah let’s call it that.

I gently leaned the door against the wall next to the now empty space.

"I guess I’ll have to pay for that now," I grumbled as I stormed down the stairs.

Once I reached the bottom of the stairs I found a diner and bar filled with villagers that seemed to be having one hell of a good time, and honestly if I hadn’t been feeling like absolute shit at that moment, I might have been tempted to join them.

"Daniel!" All of my lovely bar patrons called out together the moment they saw me.

"Hello everyone," I waved as I moved through them toward the bar, where my lovely wives were working again.

"You’re awake?" Cat smiled when I reached the counter.

"Yeah," I groaned, leaning against the counter, the walk from our room to the bar had my head pounding at that moment. "Is Erick in here somewhere?"

"No, he went back to the barracks," Julia answered from the side as she handed a drink to a customer over the counter. "Why?"

"Oh god damnit," I muttered. "Now I have to walk all the way there too."

"We can have someone call him over here," Cat said, stroking my hair as I laid my head on the counter.

I was about to nod, and tell her that that would work perfectly when I realised something very important. If I called Erick over here, Julia and Cat would likely want to be part of our conversation. And it’s not like I could really have that now could I?

They still thought that we were supposed to be in Stellor City after all, not in a carriage on our way to Virshak.

"No, no, no," I said, straightening up immediately. "Don’t worry about it, I’ll go over to him."

I didn’t give either of them a chance to say anything, backing away and blowing them a few kisses, before turning around and storming out of the inn.

Now like I’ve said many times by now, I hate the cold, but the cold air that hit my face the moment I left the inn actually made me feel a bit better. It had an almost soothing effect on my headache. At least it now didn’t feel like someone was banging my head with a hammer, and more like someone was squeezing it in a vice, which felt much better.

As the sky continued slowly darkening, I made my way through the streets of the village toward the barracks.

After walking for a few minutes, I finally stepped into the large reception room of the barracks, at least that room was empty, so I didn’t have to try and act like it wasn’t practically killing me to talk to anyone at that moment.

Unfortunately I also realised at that very moment that Erick would most likely be found in the diner, which also meant that I would have to see a ton of people anyway.

"Damnit, what did I do to deserve this?" I grumbled as I walked over to the door leading into the diner.

Still clinging to some hope that Erick might have decided to spend time with Beth instead of eating in the diner, I gently opened the door just a smidge, just enough to peek through and see who was in the diner.

"For fuck’s sakes, Erick," I muttered the moment I saw him sitting across from Beth at a table at the far corner of the diner.

Which meant that I would need to walk all the way through a crowded diner to reach them.

With a deep resigned sigh I opened the door as slowly, and quietly as I could, hoping beyond hope that if I moved very quietly, and quickly, no one would notice me entering.

It wasn’t like I could use my cloaking spell again, since I was still recovering my magic power, and any usage would just cause me to pass out again.

Unfortunately for me, the moment I stepped into the diner, all heads turned to me like they were some kind of well oiled machine working under a connected consciousness or something.

"Hi," I waved to them as I started walking toward Erick’s table a bit faster than I had intended— I was in a hurry to talk to Erick after all.

"Hi, Beth," I smiled when I reached their table. "Can I borrow Erick for a moment please?"

"Hey Daniel," Beth smiled up at me. "Sure, just hand him over to me in one piece please."

What did she think I had planned for him?

"Sure," I answered, gesturing with my head for Erick to follow me.

I tried to ignore all of the stares, and mumblings of all the elves in the room that had stopped eating and talking completely to stare at me.

When Erick and I finally reached the blessed emptiness of the reception hall again I turned to the man standing behind me with a massive grin on his face.

"So..." he started. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I’ve been run over by a truck," I grumbled.

"I don’t know what a truck is," Erick said. "But I’m guessing that means you’re feeling pretty shit."

"You’re guessing correctly," I muttered. "Anyway, the reason I came to see you is to ask how much time we have left before our carriage reaches Virshak?"

"It should reach Virshak somewhere around mid-morning tomorrow," Erick answered.

"Thank the lord," I sighed in relief. "That means we should be able to teleport back in time."

"Do you know how many of the elves in there have earth and water affinities?" I asked.

"There should be a few of them," Erick answered. "Why?"

"Because I can’t waste another day by trying to create the moat and fill it with water, just to pass out afterward again," I answered honestly.

"You know if you didn’t try to create every part of your fortification with only one spell, you wouldn’t pass out, right?" Erick asked, clearly very sarcastically.

"I was just trying to be efficient!" I exclaimed.

"Bullshit," Erick smiled. "You just wanted to show off in front of your wives."

"I did not ," I answered. "That was just an added benefit."

"Riiight," Erick said. "Anyway, can I get back to my girl now?"

"Sure," I muttered, rubbing my head as I turned toward the exit again. "I think I’m going to go and pass out again, my head is killing me."

"Good luck dealing with your wives when you wake up again!" Erick called out laughingly as I walked away.
