Chapter 92 - The Lost City
After a night of peaceful rest surrounded by the warm bodies of my two beautiful wives, I woke up the next morning with no headache, and a magic power tank that was once again brimming.
After a quick breakfast with my lovelies, Erick and I were ready to go again, at least this time we knew that we could basically come back at any time, which made saying goodbye to our girls a lot less... depressing.
"So you guys know what to do while I’m away?" I asked, as I held both of them in my embrace.
"Yes," They both muttered, snuggling even deeper into my chest.
"Remember to ask your new ’recruits’ to dig the moat and fill it with water," I still told them anyway. "And to have the same contractors that built the barracks build a nice sturdy gate that we can use as a drawbridge."
"Yes, yes, we know," Cat mumbled.
"I love you," I muttered down to them, as I leaned down to place a kiss on the tops of their heads.
Both of their arms tightened at the same time.
"I love you too," they both whispered back.
None of us cared about any of the eyes that were on us.
We stood in the reception hall of the barracks, and although no one was blatantly staring at us, I could still feel eyes on us the entire time. One set of eyes in particular felt like they were going to burn right through me.
I found that particular set of eyes not too far away. She didn’t even attempt to hide away like the other people in the building, or that she wasn’t looking at us, no, she was just standing there... staring. Those beautiful silver eyes staring so deeply at us, it felt like she was looking straight through to our souls.
"I suppose that’s Bronwyn?" I whispered down to my wives.
They nodded without even looking, it was almost like they knew she would be the only one that would be so... straightforward.
"I have something for you," I said, reluctantly stepping out of their embraces.
Out of my storage I pulled two small notebooks, and gave one to each of them.
"These two books are linked to two that I have with me," I said. "Anything you write in them will appear in the books I have with me, and the same is true for anything I write in mine."
Both of the girls looked at the books with shocked expressions, and also suddenly held them a lot closer to their bodies.
"Use them if you have something urgent to tell me, or just if you want to talk to me," I smiled. "I’ll know as soon as you write something in yours."
Neither of them said anything to me, they simply clutched the books closer to their chests, and nodded to me with misty eyes.
"Well then," I smiled, turning to Erick and Beth who stood a few feet away, still hugging. "Let’s go Erick."
Just as Erick came to stand next to me, I opened the portal into the carriage again. The moment the portal opened behind us, I could hear a bunch of muffled gasps, but I just ignored them.
"Remember to duck," I whispered to Erick with a smile. "Unless you want your head to become part of the carriage roof."
"Very funny," Erick muttered, stepping through the portal, but at least he remembered to bend over at the last moment.
I gave everyone a last smile, blew a kiss to my wives, and looked at those silver eyes again. Those eyes that were now just as shocked as everyone else’s in the room. Those eyes that felt so... ethereal to me.
I finally snapped my gaze away, hoping beyond hope that my wives hadn’t noticed how entranced I had just been by another woman, but that hope died a very early death, the moment I saw the knowing smiles on their faces.
And with those smiles haunting me I fle... ahem... stepped through the portal.
Small beads of sweat running down my neck, of course that was from the exertion of opening the portal and nothing else, at least in my haste I still remembered to stoop down a bit just before stepping through. Else I might have suffered an early death... again. And this time it would have been a lot less brave, and a lot more... stupid.
Once my sight cleared again I found myself back in the carriage we had suffered through for so many days, bumping around like it was being shaken by some kind of immortal hand.
"And back we are," I grumbled.
Across from me Erick was already seated where he had been sitting for the entire trip, but this time he wasn’t snoring like a hibernating bear, instead this time he was looking out of the window next to him with a smile on his face.
"At least we made it back just in time," he said, pointing out of the window.
I had been both excited and shocked when I first saw Stellor City, but honestly Virshak completely blew it out of the water, everything was just... more.
The ramparts were bigger, the city was larger, in the very middle of it stood a massive castle, and then the entire city was completely surrounded by a massive lake. Which reminded me of something I saw when I came falling into this world that I had never asked anyone about.
"Hey Erick," I said, finally turning away from the window. "Do you know of a city that’s built around a lake, with a waterfall pouring into it from seemingly nowhere?"
"Where have you seen this?!" Erick exclaimed with something like shock, and excitement, and even a bit of... fear?
"It’s just something I saw as I arrived here," I answered, confused by the reaction he had at the mention of this city.
"That’s the city everyone has been looking for, but no one has ever been able to find," Erick whispered.
"How can no one find it?" I asked, confused. "It’s massive, clearly visible, and has a massive waterfall falling from a clear sky? It should be unmissable."
"That’s because no one is able to see it," Erick answered, looking at me with a bright smile. "Or at least no one is supposed to be able to see it."
"Huh?"
