Chapter 104 - I’m Really Starting To Hate Him
"What?"
"How?"
"How did you get here?" The lady finally got out.
"I made some friends who offered to help," Jeremiah smiled, as I offered Erick a hand to help him get up.
A hand which he slapped away.
Rude if you asked me.
"Hi, ma’am," I smiled, ignoring Erick’s rudeness, even giving him a slight nudge with my hip, which caused him to fall down again.
"I’m Daniel," I smiled, stepping forward and extending a hand.
"That stumbling fool over there is Erick," I continued, pointing over my shoulder with a thumb.
For a few moments the lady’s gaze just drifted from my hand to Jeremiah, then back to my hand, then to the still struggling Erick.
I assumed that she might have been a bit overwhelmed by the entire situation. So of course, I only graced her with my most dazzling and charming smile.
"We’re here to get you out of this place," I said, just as she finally took my hand.
"I’m really starting to hate him," Erick grumbled from behind me as he finally managed to get his feet under him again.
"Come now, Erick, you don’t really believe that do you?" I said smilingly over my shoulder.
"Oh no, I definitely believe it," Erick growled.
"I don’t know why though," I shrugged, letting go of the lady’s hand and stepping back again, giving Jeremiah a chance to walk forward and embrace his mother for the first time in what I suspect must have been a long time.
"You don’t know why?!" Erick exclaimed. "You literally just made me float around in the sky like some sort of rag."
"Then you basically dropped me on my head the moment we got inside!" He finished.
"If you hadn’t struggled so much, you wouldn’t have found yourself in that predicament," I shrugged. "So technically everything that happened was your own fault."
"My fault?!" He growled, turning toward me with a red face. "I swear to all that’s holy, one day I’m going to kick your teeth in."
"That’s not a very nice thing to say to your friend," I frowned mockingly.
"Friend?!"
"If you weren’t the one paying my salary I would have done it already!" Erick exclaimed again.
Okay, maybe I had pushed him a bit far, but come on, you should have seen him.
I just couldn’t help myself.
"Ouch!" I said, acting hurt and depressed at the same time, even putting a hand to my heart in pain.
And obviously my acting skills were pretty good because Erick immediately calmed down significantly.
"Hmph!" Erick scoffed.
"Salary?" I heard Jeremiah ask, he and his mother were looking at Erick’s and my antics with small smiles.
"Yeah, he actually works for me," I smiled, looking at Erick, even wiggling my eyebrows.
Which made him growl at me again.
"I thought you said you were friends?" Jeremiah asked.
"We are," I nodded.
"We aren’t," Erick growled at the same time.
"Ignore him," I smiled again. "He’s just a bit pissed off and oversensitive at the moment."
For some reason the man kept growling like some kind of angry lion at that moment.
"Anyway, we should probably get out of here," I smiled.
"How are we going to get out?" Jeremiah’s mom asked.
"Don’t worry about that," I interrupted Jeremiah just as he opened his mouth to say something.
We didn’t have time at that moment for the entire ’You can teleport?!’ discussion all over again.
"Erick, I’m going to send you back to the village first," I said. "Can you get them sorted over there?"
"Sure," Erick answered. "What are you going to do?"
"I’m just going to send another message," I smiled, opening a portal in the middle of the room again.
"Be careful," Erick muttered, stepping toward the portal, and waiting for Jeremiah and his mother.
"Don’t worry mom, it’s safe," Jeremiah said, gently taking her hand and leading the wide eyed lady toward the portal.
All three of them stepped through together, and I closed the portal behind them.
"Now then," I whispered with a smile. "Let’s send that message nice and proper."
I walked toward the cell door, using my concealment spell to conceal only my face.
Just as I reached the door, I kicked with all of my strength, causing the door to fly toward the other wall, and crash through it.
It left a nice new doorway.
I was just doing some expansion for them.
"Honey! I’m home!" I yelled down the stairs.
I had always wanted to yell that after breaching a building.
I was having sooo much fun at that moment.
I took a leisurely stroll down the stairs, every once in a while I’d do some more renovations on the building.
Knock down a wall here.
Extend some windows there.
Add another doorway over there.
I was just doing my best to improve upon Charles’ buildings.
Eventually the guards started to storm toward me.
Seriously it had taken quite a while, I had expected the watch in that prison to be a lot better.
But maybe they just thought no one would actually get into the tower in the first place.
I thought that I would finally be in for a nice fight, obviously without killing, or harming them too much. They were just doing their jobs after all.
But the moment the guards saw me, and my shadow concealed face, with all of the damage behind me. I could physically see the fight leave their eyes.
Which seriously bummed me out, and significantly took away from the fun I was having.
"Tell your lord that this was only the beginning," I sighed, creating another portal behind me and stepping through it.
With my next step I appeared in the mercenary barracks of Lofie village again, surrounded by some people I recognized, and some that were complete strangers to me.
"How’d it go?" Erick asked.
"I’d say it went well," I grumbled. "I just figured that the guards in that place would at least be a bit braver."
"What do you mean, dear?" I heard one of the voices that definitely had a way of cheering me up, as Julia threw her arms around me from behind.
"I mean, they basically started quivering in their boots the moment they saw me," I smiled, kissing her hand that was resting on my chest. "Just because I knocked down some walls, and made some new windows."
"Please tell me you didn’t free more prisoners?" Erick asked, rubbing his forehead.
"Of course not!" I exclaimed. "Do I look like an idiot to you?"
"Yes," Erick smiled, apparently he had gotten over his little anger issues the moment he stepped through the portal.
Or maybe it was because Beth was already standing next to him hugging his arm.
"It seems I didn’t make you drift around enough," I growled.
"Drift around?" I heard the other voice of my dreams ask as Cat came to stand next to me hugging my arm.
"Yes, I cast—"
"Nothing!" Erick exclaimed, giving me another scowl, to which I just smiled evilly back.
"Is that so?" Julia asked from behind me with a voice that made shivers run down my spine. "It seems our husband intends to keep secrets from us, sister."
"It does seem that way," Cat answered, her grip on my arm tightening significantly. "It seems we need to go and have a nice long chat about where exactly he has been."
I knew it!
I knew that little mistake in the letter was going to come back and bite me in the ass.
"Can we do that later?" I gulped. "I need to get Jeremiah and his mother settled in after all."
"No, no, leave that to us," Erick grinned. "You should go and spend time with your lovely wives, who you kept telling me you missed so much."
Damn you Erick!
