Chapter 126-Lose control
"Arghhh!"
Her scream tore through the palace as one of his tails wrapped around her throat and slammed her repeatedly against the ground.
He attacked her again and again. The floor caved beneath her body. Blood exploded from her mouths.
"You let him die!" Nytherael roared. "How could you be selfish?"
His claws descended. Nerezza barely twisted away before the strike landed. The marble floor split open for hundreds of meters from the force alone.
"Move!" Samahita screamed.
A freezing storm detonated through the chamber. Blue-white flames burst from Samahita’s body as she transformed into her ice phoenix form.
Her gigantic crystalline wings spread open, filling half the chamber with frost instantly. The temperature plummeted violently as glaciers erupted from the floor and raced toward Nytherael in an attempt to bind him.
The fox didn’t dodge. He tore through the glaciers with brute force. The ice exploded around him like fragile glass.
His tails burned with crimson-gold flames so fierce they evaporated the frozen air itself.
Samahita’s eyes widened in horror. "He’s completely lost control..."
Nytherael appeared before her. One clawed hand seized her throat. The impact behind her generated a shockwave so violent the palace walls split apart.
Samahita’s phoenix body shrieked as Nytherael dragged her through the chamber and hurled her into the ceiling hard enough to leave a crater.
Before she could recover... BOOM!
One of his tails pierced through her wing. Her agonized cry echoed endlessly.
Meanwhile, Zeyron finally transformed as well. Golden-red flames exploded outward as the lower-ranked phoenix released his true form.
His feathers burned brightly with divine fire as he unleashed torrents of flames toward Nytherael in desperation.
The firestorm swallowed the Nytherael whole. For one brief second, silence lingered. It was so loud that Samahita and Nerezza’s whimpers could be heard.
Then crimson-gold foxfire exploded outward from inside the inferno and consumed Zeyron’s flames entirely.
Nytherael emerged untouched. Terrifyingly so that the beasts regretted their decision to attack his lover.
They thought that Sseraphis losing his mind in the past was horrible, they were yet to catch a glimpse of Nytherael losing his temper.
The foxfire wrapped around Zeyron’s phoenix body and burned straight through his divine flames as if they were nothing. Zeyron screamed as one tail struck him from the side with catastrophic force.
Bones shattered instantly. His body spun across the room before crashing through an entire wall of the underwater palace.
Water flooded inward violently. He now understood why Nytherael never took his seriously since the first time he arrived as the emperor’s envoy. How could he? He was nothing to Nytherael’s power and capabilities.
Theren hissed furiously as his body enlarged. The five-headed serpent rose upward, colossal and horrifying.
Venom dripped from each maw while lightning crackled around his scales. All five heads attacked simultaneously from different directions.
One head was full of poison, the second snake head carried lightning, the third head carried wind, the fourth head carried fire and the last half carried darkness, and each element struck forward at Nytherael at full force. A coordinated assault from every angle.
Nytherael finally stopped moving. For one horrifying moment, Theren thought they had cornered him. Then all nine tails rose higher than Theren’s heads.
The chamber darkened. The fox’s spiritual power detonated outward in rings of destruction. The incoming attacks shattered before touching him.
They weren’t weakened or redirected, they were shattered completely. "What...?" Theren recoiled in disbelief.
The fox looked at him. Only then did Theren understand that he was never on the same length as Nytherael. Even when he took charge, commanded the fox around, the nine-tailed fox went along either because he was too lazy to argue or simply didn’t care but it was never because he had the ability to command him.
Nytherael was no longer fighting like a beast. He was fighting with a mind, and heart clouded with grief. Both organs worked together with one purpose, to destroy his enemies.
One tail wrapped around the serpent’s central neck. Another crushed one of the side heads into the floor.
The remaining heads lunged desperately, fangs dripping poison, only for Nytherael to rip through them with savage brutality. Blood sprayed across the palace in massive torrents.
Theren screamed. "Arghhh!" His scream was louder than Nerezza’s.
Nerezza tried to intervene despite her injuries. "STOP! HE’LL KILL HIMSELF AT THIS RATE!"
Nytherael turned toward her slowly. That look in his eyes made her soul freeze. There was no brother left in those eyes. There was only hatred and devastation.
The tables had turned. She lost her right to hate for the past and now he had one reason which equalled a million to hate her and he did.
Her eyes searched the room for Rhysandor’s body but Nytherael’s massive tails hindered her view of her husband’s body.
"You killed Rhys."
"No... I..."
"You betrayed us. Betrayed him!"
Her four tails trembled violently. Meanwhile, behind the chaos, Aeltharion clutched Sseraphis desperately while Jura examined him frantically.
"Why isn’t he waking up?!" Aeltharion shouted.
Jura’s eyes widened suddenly. "The sleeping medicine..." He remembered they gave it to him so he could rest after he took medicine.
"What?"
"He isn’t unconscious from the lightning strike. The pills I gave him are suppressing his senses. The attack barely pierced his defenses!" Jura exclaimed quickly. "He’s injured but alive!"
Hope slammed into Aeltharion so hard he almost collapsed. Alive? Sseraphis had fallen into deep slumber before the beasts arrived, he forgot that in the chaos. He felt relieved and dared to push his robes open to check the part the lighting struck.
His arm was perfectly fine. The scales around the spot had hardened harder than ever and had slight burnt mark on them, it was the sign that he had been attacked.
He sighed with relief and set Sseraphis back on the bed for him to continue resting. His gaze shifted toward Rhysandor.
Toward the gaping hole in the man’s chest and to the soul already beginning to fade into scattered fragments of light. Aeltharion’s expression changed instantly.
"No... Nytherael won’t be able to return from his insanity if you disappear," he panicked.
He moved immediately. Golden spiritual threads exploded from his hands as he rushed toward Rhysandor’s body. The fading soul-light had already begun drifting apart like fireflies into the air.
"Jura! Help me!"
Jura abandoned everything and rushed over. The two dropped beside Rhysandor’s corpse.
"His soul is dispersing too fast!" Jura shouted. "We need to gather it up quickly."
Aeltharion gritted his teeth and slammed both palms against Rhysandor’s chest. Golden light erupted outward as ancient runes formed beneath the corpse.
"COME BACK!"
The drifting fragments trembled. One by one, tiny shards of soul-light began gathering together again.
Slowly, painfully slowly, they came back. Aeltharion coughed blood as he forced more spiritual power into the technique.
Outside the barrier he created, Nytherael continued tearing the chamber apart.
Samahita’s phoenix body crashed violently across the palace as one of his tails struck her again. Frost shattered across the room while Nerezza desperately blocked another claw strike meant for her throat.
"Nytherael stop!" she screamed. "I never meant to kill my husband!"
"Then who did you want to kill? My husband?" He questioned with violence.
A tail pierced clean through one of her fox tails and pinned her brutally to the floor. "Aah!" Her scream echoed endlessly.
Zeyron tried to rise again only to be crushed beneath another tail strike powerful enough to crack his phoenix bones.
Theren coiled desperately around Nytherael’s body in an attempt to restrain him.
