Conflux System: I Can Merge Anything

Chapter 202: He Put His Luck To The Test

The voice is the muscle of the soul.

But Hena chose to present this muscle as something different from its original form as Zane had told all of them to modify their voice.

Hena spoke like a man with a sore throat and suffering from passive smoking.

Everyone laughed at her voice including the Simmers but laughter was a fleeting guest in Dwarkam.

Therefore, the laughter ended abruptly and the light atmosphere turned grim.

The leader leaned forward, rested his hand on the door and while looking down he asked the most normal question.

"Why are you faking your real voice, girl?"

Zane stopped resting on the wall.

He couldn’t take it easy anymore.

The Simmers were prying too much and Zane wouldn’t like more things to fall on his plate.

But he still had no idea how to come out of this situation.

It was because of Hena that he wasn’t caught till now in the first place.

The leader eyed Hena and the girl tried her best to not lose her patience and calmness.

But since Zane was supposedly a leader himself, his silence would be cowardice and irresponsible.

It was his idea to talk in a different voice in the first place. He didn’t know who was behind the door but if they happened to be someone who had heard Zane’s and others’ voices before then when Zane would use his own voice he would have been caught.

That’s why he had ordered them to use different voices.

But it seemed to have backfired.

Now he had to do something.

He ran his mind to come up with anything and in a short time, he ended up...

"Haha."

Laughing a little.

The Simmer leader turned to Zane.

Everyone else as well.

"What’s so funny?" The leader asked.

Zane crossed his hands in front of his chest.

He was inside the shadow of the door so his face wasn’t visible.

But he could clearly see the annoyed face of the leader.

Nevertheless, he did what he planned.

"I told her to not use that voice. But now that you have caught it, I can’t wait to hear her real voice. It’s too funny. She sounds like a child. Her voice is like a little girl. You should hear it once for sure."

The leader frowned.

Then he grinned.

"Is that so?" He turned to Hena once more.

Hena clenched her fists.

She was smart enough to understand Zane’s words and that was the reason she wanted to punch him.

In his plan of finding Horum, she had become his puppet.

"Speak for me." The leader ordered.

Zane twitched but the darkness hid it. He didn’t like the leader’s authoritative tone against his people. He had no right to order Hena.

But he held back and let Hena handle it.

"Speak!" The leader shouted.

Hena raised her gaze and shot a glare at him.

But since she couldn’t jeopardize the mission, her cheeks flushed as she said:

" ~What do you want me to say~ "

She made the girliest voice possible.

It was light. Thin. Almost competing with a mosquito.

For one second, Zane was forced to forget the tension and laugh but he held himself in control.

Though, Xavier, Tesla and Jammy lost it.

They made no sound but they covered their mouths with their shoulders trembling.

Hena gritted her teeth.

Never in her life did she think she would find herself doing such mockery of herself.

The leader and the other two Simmers also laughed out loud and the leader laughed right in front of Hena’s face.

Hena endured the humiliation and Zane sensed the discomfort in the girl.

"Alright. That’s enough. Stop bullying my girl. She didn’t choose her voice." Zane chimed in.

Hena flinched at Zane addressing her like that and just because she knew it was a lie, she didn’t overreact at that.

Though, no one ever called her like that. She was used to hearing bitch, traitor, slut, whore, become my slave. Somehow Zane chose the least harmful word. Yes, she didn’t like how Zane called her his girl as if she was a property but again, it was better than being called my bitch .

The leader looked at Zane.

"Forget it. What are you all doing here? Tell me your name and purpose. And why is everyone wearing a mask?"

Zane’s hands remained crossed as without looking at the leader, he gave the answers.

"We are looking for the Flamekeeper Horum. It is heard that that filth is looking for this priest, something to do with the relic. We are here to confirm it. And seeing how the old man is not here, it means he ran away. Either he really has the relic or he ran away in fear."

"Fear of what?"

Zane smiled.

"Fear of the outcome of his sin."

"What are you tal-"

"About the masks," Zane interrupted. "We didn’t want to show our faces to Horum. We didn’t know if he was still around here or not. Also, that filth is also on the run. If he saw our faces, he might make sure not to come in our path. But the masks stop him from knowing whom to stay away from. Of course, he would try to stay away from the rich anyway."

The leader frowned.

"Who are you, really? The last time I checked, Gargoyles didn’t use their brain."

"My girlfriend will answer that. I don’t go around speaking my identity." Zane tossed it to Hena. Mostly because he didn’t know any members’ name of the Gargoyle family.

Hena understood that and with flushed cheeks, she spoke once more.

" ~He is Roman Gargoyle. The fifth son of the Gargoyle family. He is here to confirm whether that filthy beggar is really looking for Horum or not~"

Hena said a long sentence and Zane wanted to laugh once more.

But this time, he couldn’t.

Because the leader didn’t laugh.

"Under whose orders?" He asked.

Should I say Leon? What if Leon had told them that they only asked the Simmers Family to visit Horum’s house. This is bad.

Zane couldn’t stay silent for a long time as it would only welcome suspicion.

Alright. Screw it.

Zane cleared his throat and in the most carefree and non-chalant manner, he said:

"Leon’s orders of course. Who else?"

He put his luck to the test.
