Chapter 201: The Knock Was The Easy Part
When one door closes another opens but all too often there is a long hallway in between.
But Zane had already crossed that long hallway and was about to open the door.
On the other side of the door, he didn’t know what was waiting for him.
A sword could welcome him and he could die.
But since his Merged Skill didn’t trigger any kind of ill intent, he was relieved he wouldn’t die at least.
The others were behind him and Hena was just behind him.
He felt something soft pressing on his back but he didn’t have time to focus or enjoy that.
So, with no intention of making the visitors wait more, he took a deep breath and finally opened the door.
The light of the moons illuminated the visitors and the same light fell on Zane as well.
Hena also saw them and as she did, her body betrayed a twitch.
But she remained confident just like Zane.
Zane eyed the men in front of him.
There were three.
All of them wore the same quality of clothes as Zane and they were taller and broader than Zane.
The man in the front had yellow side burns with black hair and he appeared to be the leader of the group of three.
The leader and Zane stared at each other, no one speaking a word.
Zane would not speak first.
He didn’t know who these people were and he would not risk blurting out something that would give him away.
But the other person didn’t have anything like Zane in mind so he broke the silence first.
"Who are you?"
That was his first question and Zane had the answer prepared.
He would use the same name he was throwing around to everyone.
"I-"
"The Gargoyle."
Huh?
Zane wasn’t expecting that at all.
The person behind him said the name of someone else altogether.
And in a voice that didn’t fit the speaking person at all.
Zane glanced at the source.
Hena showed nothing on her face and Zane held back his expressions of shock and laughter hearing her manly made-up voice.
Zane focused on the man once more and not once did he show on his face that he wasn’t expecting a different family name spoken by Hena.
He acted as if he really belonged to the family with such a weird name.
But it seemed to work.
The leader’s gaze softened.
"The Gorgoyles, eh? Who are you kids? Did that old man become a father again?"
The leader laughed and Zane simply smiled with his eyes.
He still had his mask on him so he tried his best to express his laughter with his eyes.
But alas, he forgot that there was one method actor in his team.
"Hahaha. He does marry around a lot. Hahaha!"
Xavier laughed more than the leader and more than the joke deserved. Heck, it wasn’t even a joke. Zane was sure Xavier had never met the Gargoyles in his life and he laughed like he understood the joke down to the very last syllable.
Zane turned around a little and as he did, his smiling eyes were replaced by fiery ones.
Shit. I did it again.
Xavier stopped his laughter and went silent.
Jammy made sure to land a punch on his back and Zane focused on the leader again.
He had stopped laughing after hearing Xavier’s laugh and for some reason, he appeared more serious than before.
"What are you doing here? Who are you?" He asked.
Zane sighed.
He showed no worries but his heart refused to calm down. It was on his throat.
The leader stared at Zane with questioning eyes and the two men behind the leader also eyed the group.
The leader also peeked inside the house and frowned.
"Why is it so dark? What is going on here? Why the masks? Who are you people?"
The leader asked all the questions Zane was afraid of and more than that, something unexpected had happened.
Hena had introduced them as Gorgoyles for some reason and it was clear that the visitors knew about them.
So Zane could not take any name. He had to pick a name that also existed in the Gorgoyles family.
But his mind was blank and the only thing he could think of was to let someone else handle it.
Someone who was responsible for messing this up by taking the Gorgoyles name.
"I don’t have time for this. My girlfriend will answer your questions."
Zane outright refused to answer.
He shifted to the side and rested on the wall beside the door.
He placed his hand behind his head and started whistling. But only air came out of his mouth instead of any sound.
The leader watched Zane’s behavior with quivering lips as his fists clenched on its own.
"You stupid brat! I will show you your pla-"
"Calm down, sir Simmer." Hena spoke.
All brows shot up. But only the brows of Zane’s people except Hena and Draxus.
But Zane didn’t stop resting his head on the wall as that would be suspicious and not in-character. He simply acted like a rich young man and that was his best impression so far according to him.
Though, he was surprised and more than that, grateful for Hena.
If not for her quick thinking, Zane would have introduced himself as the Simmers family in front of the real Simmers family.
That’s one of the reasons why Zane let her do the talking this time.
She knew some families and by saying the Gargoyle she had brought them some time and genuineness.
Zane might be the leader but he wasn’t omnipotent and definitely not arrogant enough to jeopardize everything for his pride.
He would take a loss for himself any day if it meant the people trusting him stayed alive.
The leader eyed Hena.
Though, he ended up laughing.
He looked at Zane.
"This is your girlfriend? She sounds like a man panting while fucking a donkey."
The three visitors laughed. Hell even Xavier and Jammy chuckled.
Hena’s face flushed as she launched a glare at Zane.
First he called her his girlfriend and now she was being compared to a man making love with a donkey.
But the laughter ended right away.
"Alright. Enough jokes."
The leader stopped his amusement.
He leaned closer to Hena, placing his hand on the door.
The man shadowed over her and while looking down with a cold gaze, he asked:
"Why are you faking your real voice, girl?"
